BNSF was shuttling a lot of power from Provo back to Denver on this day. At least, I assume that was the case as only the first three of the eight units were actually online. Interesting how six BNSF units were sandwiched between a CitiRail leaser and a CSX unit! Behind the train (right side of the frame), you will notice a set of tracks. This is the Chem Spur which hasn't been used in over two years since Mesa Oil moved to a new location.

Both UP and BNSF manifests on the Moffat tend to be dominated by tank cars these days. This BNSF Provo-Denver was no exception. Other than a few assorted cars near the point, most of the remainder of the train is tanks.

I try to make it a point to get as many of these CitiRail leasers on film (well, electronics...but you get the point) as I can. There is a good chance that these will have totally disappeared within a couple of years. Plus, it is quite a wild paint scheme and, like most railfans, I love getting shots of wild paint schemes!

One of the BNSF units on this train is offline and not loading. Not sure which one, but the train had to stop at Rocky after developing an issue with one of the three units. BNSF's yard in Denver sent the Norfolk Southern unit west (light) to pop on the front of the train and assist in the journey west to Provo, UT.

Here is a scene you don't see everyday! A Norfolk Southern unit crossing Blue Mountain Road on the way west on the Moffat. I intentionally cut out the second (BNSF) unit from the frame to make the scene that much more unusual!

Interesting story behind this westbound BNSF manifest. As it was headed west through Leyden, one of the three units developed a problem. The train crawled at 12 MPH to Rocky and stopped on the main. Ultimately, BNSF ran this Norfolk Southern unit west to Rocky where the crew attached it to the point of the train, and the train continued heading west.

A little worse for wear, this Warbonnet still doesn't look bad by any stretch of the imagination. The unit certainly did receive a rather unique patch job on the long hood! But I'll take that patch job over a patch on the cab done with contrasting colors any day.

An elevated view of a freshly rebuilt, freshly painted BNSF GP60M-3. This unit was rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen. Always great to get a picture of a freshly painted unit.

BNSF's Brush Subdivision follows a very a straight line for quite some time when leaving Denver. If you look on the left side of the frame, you can see the tall grain elevator that stands alongside the tracks near the diamond at Sand Creek. Here, nine units (three of them DIC) lead a manifest headed for Lincoln, NE.

This power has just about everything you can ask for in 2016! You got some GE and you got some EMD. You got some Warbonnet paint, some Heritage 2 paint, and some New Image paint. Newer power and older power. And it's always cool to catch nine units on the point of any train!

Always good to catch a Warbonnet, although sad to see this particular Warbonnet on this train. BNSF 521 has been working on locals in the Denver area for well over a year. I've seen it on the Beer Run as well as on the Longmont Switch. Time to say farewell for now as it departs for Lincoln, NE. Perhaps, with a little luck, it'll find its way back to Denver.
