It is the siding of Orsa. Even with the addition of CTC to the Joint Line, the siding is still just has hand throws at either end and likely hasn't been used in years. With the creation of the Joint Line in World War 1, the bridge was removed and the tracks now run parallel through here, with a crossover between Main 1 and Main 2. The head end of this train is technically on track owned by BNSF while the back of the train is technically on track owned by UP. Main 1 is generally used for southbound traffic, has CTC (Centralized Traffic Control), and is controlled/dispatched by BNSF in Fort Worth. Main 2, which is located in the foreground, has TWC/ABS (Track Warrant Control with Automatic Block Signals), and is controlled/dispatched by UP in Omaha. The crew of the train is actually tying the train down on Main 1. The SUV to the right will take the crew back to the yard office. Typically, southbounds are tied down in the siding known as Hogan's Alley. However, as you can see, there is already a train tied down there. So, for the time being, Main 2 will the only track open in either direction between Walnut Street and South Denver. In the distance, Longs Peak stands tall at 14,259 feet above sea level. However, the two tracks in the yard where this happens - Coal 1 and Coal 2 - were both plugged with trains when BNSF 6017 rolled through. So, the train is headed down to Englewood. There, a new outbound crew will relieve the current crew that brought the train west from Sterling. I assume the SD40-2 is returning to Pueblo after a 92-day inspection in Denver. The unit was online and loading, which was somewhat unexpected, but cool to see (and hear) nonetheless. It is rather interesting that it is a DC unit, as it is pretty uncommon to find DC units in service on coal trains these days.
