BNSF has a switch job that works six days a week switching cars out for the industries. Currently, a pair of GP39-2s have the task. The units are remote control enabled, so a single crewman is capable of throw switching and uncoupling cars, while controlling the units from his remote pack. The train is very short today, so the train has five units on the head end, rather than three on the head end and two DPUs on the rear. The Zephyr has already departed Denver, and dispatchers would usually hold an eastbound at Rocky for a meet. If you are reading this comment and are not familiar, BNSF bought out MRL at the start of 2025. BNSF took over MRL's rail lines and property, including all motive power. It has cleared the east switch, and will stop before blocking the grade crossing. The train will have to wait here for two eastbounds. The first is the Zephyr, and the second is a fellow BNSF train (the Provo-Denver). The crew on the Provo-Denver is running short on time, so the dispatcher is trying to keep them moving.
