A quartet of C44-9Ws (and an ES44DC) head up the eastbound Stockton to Denver trackage rights train. The train has an Approach Diverging signal about a mile ahead of it. However, that would change to an Approach signal after dispatch called to ask if he could line the train down a different track.

What happens when the orange paint on a BNSF pumpkin sits out in the sun too long? It fades...and it fades a lot! A great example is the power on BNSF's Denver to Provo trackage rights train. The lead C44-9W is several shades lighter than the trailing two units.

This shot can really take you back! A pair of Yellow-Bonnets, a GP39-2 and a GP38, will serve as power for the Golden Switch which runs east out of Golden to switch other industries on the Golden Sub. In 1987 and 1988, these same units could be found on the Joint Line, running some of the hottest trains on the Santa Fe (the QDVLJ and QLJDV from Denver to La Junta and vice versa).

Power on the Beer Run seems to be changing a lot lately. BNSF will throw just about anything on there. I've seen everything from SD40-2s to SD70ACes. C44-9Ws to ES44DCs. On this day, an H2 C44-9W and a H1 C44-9W power the train. The two geeps in the back will serve as the Golden Switch power in the coming week.

In order to make it to the lower yard at Coors, train have to cross West 44th Avenue (the same road that the Colorado Railroad Museum is located on!) Trains cross 44th using a stoplight for protection. The stoplight doubles as the stop light at the intersection of 44th and Eldridge.

Nearly 12 miles west of Denver, the Beer Run is approach the switch at Terrell Junction on the Golden Sub. At Terrell Junction, trains have the option of going into the lower yard (switch reversed) or the upper yard (switch normal). In this case, the train will be going to the lower yard.

An interesting set of power on the Stockton to Denver train stopped at Cliff. A shabby-looking Warbonnet C40-8W - sandwiched by a pair of ES44DCs - are patiently waiting for the arrival of the Ski Train. The third unit, BNSF 7200, looks fresh out of the shop!

Got some time on your hands? I think the crew of this eastbound Stockton to Denver trackage rights train can probably relate! The train is in the hole at Cliff waiting for the Ski Train.

A great way to finish off the day was with this Denver, CO to Laurel, MT freight (HDENLAU) at Broomfield. I shot the train a few hours earlier preparing its train for departure from the yard. Here, the train has a track warrant all the way to Longs Peak, so it won't be making a stop anytime soon!

Somewhat obscured by trees, BNSF's HDENLAU (Denver, CO to Laurel, MT) is working on assembling its train in the yard. Once its air test is complete, it'll head north toward the Front Range Sub and points beyond.

I figure it is also worth posting pictures of Warbonnets, even if they are just sitting around at the time of the shot! A C40-8W and an SD75M are sitting, waiting for their next assignment.

This northbound manifest has a really nice consist with an H1 C44-9W followed by a pair of New Image ES44DC's. The train is approaching Walnut Street and will pull up to 20th Street to wait for permission to enter the yard.

About 48 hours after the derailment here in the Littleton Trench a week ago, crews were able to clear and rebuild the freight tracks. However, while Light Rail is being rebuilt, freight traffic is restricted to Main 3. Such is the case here, as a southbound coal load passes through the Form B, give plenty of bell and whistle to the men and equipment in the area.

Kicking up some snow and running on a clear signal! This southbound coal load is approaching Kalamath Street near I-25 and Alameda Avenue. For those not familiar with the area, I'm well clear of the track, shooting through a curve with 300mm lens!

This southbound has the first mile of its 120 mile journey south to Pueblo in the bag! A new SD70ACe, with ice cycles hanging off the radiator housing, approaching Walnut Street in Denver. The train is currently copying a warrant to proceed into the Track Warrant limits around MP 12.
