For those not familiar with this unique paint scheme, it was a test scheme conceived of after the BNSF merger. If a slightly different decision had been made, this could have been the scheme applied to all new units (instead o the Heritage scheme)! After waiting a few hours for the Valmont empty to clear, the Denver to Laurel finally has a warrant to proceed north toward Longmont. However, starting in November 2008, the coal is now coming from the Powder River Basin in Wyoming. BNSF now gets all the business (whereas UP ran the train to and from the mine). BNSF will route the loaded train down the Brush Sub and the empty north on the Front Range Sub. Here is the first train headed north on on the Sub, approaching the Foothills Blvd Underpass. The switch to the Kountry Line is located off the Joint Line about 3 miles south of 20th Street. Here, the crew ties down the local and prepares to wait for a ride.
