A five car BNSF business train (for Matt Rose, the President and CEO of BNSF) sits quietly at Denver Union Station on Track Three. The train would shortly depart for Alliance, Nebraska via the Brush Subdivision.

One of the Z-Trains that BNSF runs into and out of Denver is the ZDENCHI (Denver to Chicago) and its counterpart. They run seven days a week, save for Sundays. The ZDENCHI typically leaves early in the morning and this day was no exception. After meeting Amtrak at Prospect, the Z-Train departed Rennicks and is coming around the wye into 31st Street toward the Brush Sub.

While there is some clutter in the way in this picture, I like some of the things that are included: The pedestrian foot bridge at Mineral Street, the Light Rail station at Mineral, and the signal bridges at Littleton marking the end of the CTC triple track and the start of the TWC double track (when heading south).

A unit tank train sits tied down on Main 3 just south of the Evans Street Light Rail station. Because it is Memorial Day, there are trains tied down at South Denver on Mains 2 and 3, and trains tied down at the intermediate at Evans on Mains 2 and 3!

I try not to post too many roster shots, but there are certainly exceptions from time to time. BNSF 4000 is the "class unit" for the C44-9W's on the roster, and it is the lowest numbered C44-9W on BNSF's roster.

An elevated roster shot of BNSF 9380, a new SD70ACe delivered to BNSF in early April. This shot was taken from the Park Avenue West overpass just outside of Denver. Note that the SD70ACe has only two radiator fans, similar to the 38 and 39 series from the 1970's.

Leading a northbound coal empty on Main One, BNSF 9380 - a brand new SD70ACe - is about to cross over the Diamond that runs between Prospect Junction and Union Station. This northbound coal empty, with a fresh crew on board, would pass through the yard and head northeast on the Brush Sub.

Tied down in the Lodo Siding, BNSF 9397 waits patiently for a new crew to continue north. The building in the background was once known as the "Bum's Hotel", a place you wouldn't want to be late at night…now it has been refurbished into upscale lofts. Great place for watching trains!

Fresh out of the box, this SD70ACe came to BNSF from the EMD plant in London, Ontario less than a month ago. It was the lead unit on a northbound coal empty sitting in the Lodo Siding just south of BNSF's 31st Street yards.

From the Evans Street overpass I observed this view of a southbound D-Line Light Rail racing a southbound coal load on Main One on the Joint Line…Okay, maybe it wasn't much of a "race"…

A rather shabby looking GP35 and a very clean looking GP30 bring in the "BN Transfer" train from UP at North Yard. The units will take the train down into 38th street for classification.

BNSF 8070 somehow wound up with a very unique nose patch. The white stripes were removed and the old BNSF herald was added in their place. On this day, the unit was the second of two SD40-2's switching 38th street in Denver.

SPSF? Okay, maybe not quite. However, two engines from one possible future sit near each other at the house in BNSF's yard. Ironically, the Espee unit has been patched UP and the Santa Fe unit has been patched BNSF!
