Despite being on the wrong side of the tracks (as far as the sun goes), UP 1988 looks mighty fine as it rounds the curve at State Bridge along the banks of the Colorado River.

In fantastic early afternoon light, UP 1988 leads an eastbound coal load down the east end of the Craig Branch. I was very happy I had the opportunity to chase the train as I hadn't seen UP 1988 since 2007, and I had never seen it on an actual train on the mainline!

Some unknown UP dignitaries enjoy the view out the picture window on the back of this officer's special. In addition to the picture window on the back of the car, the car is setup with stadium seating so everyone sitting can have a good view.

This 17 car officer's special made a quick trip out to Grand Junction. It departed Denver yesterday morning at 8am and stayed the night last night in Grand Junction. Departed Grand Junction this morning at 8am and, less than seven hours later, is seen here just west of the west switch of Leyden!

UP 1943 leads a UP officer's special west on the main at Plain. The headlights reflect through the lightly falling rain as the temperature hangs around 30°F. DS-80 will do his best to keep the train moving quickly toward Grand Junction. At this point at Plain, the train has clear signals all the way to Tabernash!

About once per year (on average), UP runs an officer's special over the Moffat. A freezing October day in 2018 found such a special departing North Yard at 0800 sharp, headed west. Here, the train is west of Leyden with UP 1943 on the point just 20 minutes after departing the North Yard storage yard.
