This GP38 (still in the body of a GP35) was the fourth unit on BNSF's Provo to Denver train. After being dropped off in Denver, the unit would depart the following day on BNSF's Denver to Galesburg, IL manifest. This is a Utah Railway unit that I had always wanted to shoot but never got the chance in Utah. How ironic that I was finally able to capture in right in my own back yard in Denver!
Rumor has it that the unit is off to Panama City, FL where it will be upgraded (rebuilt) as a GP38-3. Utah Railway sister unit UTAH 2000 is apparently there and being rebuilt as of this picture. So it would seem that UTAH 2002 will be returning to Utah Railway, but I guess only time will tell for sure.

The steepest part of Soldier Summit is between Helper and the crossover at Colton. Frequently, mid-train swing helpers are cutout at Colton as the train can make it up to the top of Soldier Summit along at that point. Such is the case here, as five Utah Railway helpers have been cut out of the coal train at Colton and are returing toward Martin (near Helper) on Main 1. The tail end of the coal train can be seen departing west on Main 2 in the distance.

A Utah Railways coal load (with leased UP power on the point) is running west on the "wrong track", about to enter the Nolan Tunnels. The "wrong track" simply means the dispatcher has decided to run the train west on Main 2 instead of Main 1. Main 1 is typically used for westbounds and Main 2 for eastbounds. In CTC, however, the dispatcher can do whatever he or she pleases!
