While chasing this UP special east on the Limon Sub, I came across a couple other Denver-area railfans. Here is one gaining a little altitude while shooting the special on the approach to Manilla Road.

An eastbound UP special crosses over a trestle in Watkins, CO on the Limon Sub. The short train is headed east of the Mississippi. The first electric unit will be delivered to Pennsylvania and the next three are headed to Maryland.

This UP special ran over the Moffat. The train was called in Grand Junction at 10:30pm the night before and actually made amazing time. Was hoping to get a few shots of the train on the Moffat, but it was in Denver by 7:00am and had a new crew called at 8:15am.

An SD70M leads an eastbound special on the siding at Mesa while a GP38-2 works to switch some cars at Pioneer Pipe. The local has been using the main at Mesa, so the special was run through the siding. It will stop briefly at the east end of Mesa to wait for a track warrant from DS-86.

An eastbound special has a matched pair of "notched" SD70Ms for power. The second SD70M was actually bad-ordered in Utah and is offline. But it makes for a mighty fine looking shot.

An RTD A-Line train crosses over UP's Limon Sub just east of Mesa. This single track bridge is close to a mile long and takes the A-Line from along Smith Road and the Limon Sub over the tracks and over I-70 in order to parallel Pena Blvd to DIA. This particular commuter train is headed west, toward Union Station.

Missed it by that much! Was hoping to get a shot of an A-Line commuter train crossing over a UP special with a quartet of electric engines. Alas, the A-Line train came by about 20 seconds too late.

This is a Siemens-built ACS-64 built for a Pennsylvania-based commuter (Septa). This is the first of 15 such units that have been ordered by Septa and are pending delivery from Siemens.

A pair of UP SD70Ms are pulling four electric units that will be used on commuter rail. The units were built by Siemens and are headed for Pennsylvania. RTD's "A Line", which runs from Union Station to Denver International Airport, follows UP's Limon Sub for much of the run. Here, just west of Airport Blvd, the A-Line ascends and crosses over the Limon Sub. If only a commuter train has passed over right at this moment!

You may not see it at first, but there are actually two trains in this shot. The first is the Roydale Local, led by a pair of GP38-2s. The second is a UP special that is transporting four Siemens electric units. The special is holding at a red signal until the local can get in the clear at Mesa.

About a week ago, I got some shots of an eastbound coal train that was led by CSX units. Today, I was able to catch another eastbound coal load, but this one was led by a Norfolk Southern "catfish". A name given to wide cab Norfolk Southern units because the white stripes on the nose look a bit like whiskers.

Typically when I nab a picture that includes the Denver skyline, I'm on the west side of town. On this particular day, however, I'm on the east side of town! A Norfolk Southern unit leads the eastbound coal load on the main at Mesa. Much of the Limon Sub in Aurora parallels Smith Road.
