Just a nice, afternoon overview of North Yard! There isn't much power to spare in the yard this afternoon, with most of the power visible used either in local work or yard job.

Another completed trip from Green River, WY to North Yard here in Denver. UP's MGRNY has arrived and is working on breaking the train up between Track 3 and Track 4 in the yard. At 5500 feet, the train was too long to fit on a single yard track, as Track 3 is only around 3500 feet long.

Considering how time marches on and things continue to change, I always figure it is a good idea to get shots of some of the Denver rail infrastructure. 20 years from now, this could all be apartments...

The westbound Rocky Mountaineer is has eight cars, testing out expanded service set to being in 2026. The train will be rebranded from the Rockies to the Red Rocks to the Canyon Spirit. The train, for the first time, rolls by the Amtrak platform in Helper on Main 1. Main 2 sits closest to the platform, which has a couple of folks watching the passing train.

Helper continues to live up to its name, even in 2025. A dozen or so units idle away in the lower yard at Helper, waiting for their next assignment. Heavy westbounds, including oil trains and coal trains, still have manned helpers added to them for the 2.15% climb up Soldier Summit.

A fantastic-looking SD70M, UP 4190, is powered down and rests in the yard. Not sure if it is being stored, or if it simply waiting for some assignment, but it's been awhile since I've seen an SD70M sporting paint quite this pristine.

This GP40N has a fairly interesting history. It was delivered as a GP40 (not a GP40-2) to Baltimore and Ohio in November 1966 as B&O 3692. It was briefly on the Chessie roster after the B&O and C&O merger, and then wound up on the CSX roster as CSX 6508. CSX then sold the unit to Espee and it changed colors and roster number, becoming SP 7114. Now, it has found new life as it has been rebuilt to GP40-2 specifications, designated as a GP40N.

Long gone are the days of switch engines, such as the SW1000 and SW1200. For several decades, units like this (former) GP38-2 are now used in switching and local service. UP 801 was originally built as MP 2301. UP has been rebuilding many older units, but this unit has not yet undergone the the rebuild program.
