Looking north at Fox Junction, the First Beer Run makes its way south on UP's Main. A great looking pair of SD60Ms are currently in charge of the train, making two rounds trips per days between Denver and Golden.

The crossover at Pecos was installed when the Belt Bypass was built. Its main purpose is to allow coal trains to cut out their mid-train swing helpers before continuing east on the Limon Sub.

Two C44AC-CTEs and an AC4400CW bring a coal load headed for Paducah, KY down Bypass Two just east of C&S Junction. The empty just barely visible to the right will depart westbound as soon as the load is in the clear.

Just in case you wake up one morning and you are not sure what city you are in, you can always check to see if you can see the Quest Building. If you can, you're in Denver! Power for the Denver to Green River (WY) train sits waiting for a crew...and a train!

A yard job works on switching cars out at 36th Street Yard. However, you won't find anybody in the cab of UP 712. This is a remote switch job and the RCL operator is on the ground at the opposite end of the string of cars, throwing switches.

Even though it is only 4 o'clock in the afternoon, the sun is getting very low in the western sky. An ES44AC and a pair of SD70Ms have been fueled and are ready to lead the MDVSI from Denver to Salina, KS.

Looking at this unit covered hopper train, it is not difficult to see how it got the nickname "earth worm". This grain train is headed south on Main 2.

Need an engine? UP has a few of them available in storage at Burnham (in Denver). The units tend to be older and most have been sitting in Burnham for at least a year. There are many C40-8Ws here and there is a string of SD90MACs in the distance. There units are the true 6000 HP units developed in the late 1990's. It is unlikely they will ever see service on UP rails again.

A BNSF crew brought this local down to the Kountry Line. The switch to the Kountry Line is located off the Joint Line about 3 miles south of 20th Street. Here, the crew ties down the local and prepares to wait for a ride. The next day, a new crew will work the local on the branch.

I found an intruder at UP's 36th Street Yard on this particular Sunday! A relatively new BNSF SD70ACe was hanging around on load to UP. Not long after this picture, the unit headed north and then west toward Green River, WY.

A nice roster shot of a C44-9W leads the HDENLAU. The train is cutting out a bad order car at which time it will proceed north up the Front Range Sub. The second unit is a former ATSF SD75M, now wearing the Heritage 2 scheme.

Waiting for a signal into the yard, BNSF's Lincoln to Denver manifest sits just east of the yard on the Brush mainline. BNSF's Beer Run just got into the yard and will have to enter the OS here at the east end to cut some cars. Hence the reason for the manifest holding here.

At the east entrance to BNSF's 31st Street Yard, the Lincoln, NE to Denver manifest (HLINDEN) had a CSX GP40-2 in the consist. We don't see CSX units in Colorado too often, and this is definitely the first four-axle power from CSX I've seen!

A long shot looking down two of the ready tracks in Denver. BNSF 653 once wore silver and red as it was originally delivered as ATSF 653. Note the back side of Coors Field in the distance, where the Colorado Rockies play during the baseball season.

Power ready for assignment! After power has been serviced, it is moved by hostlers to the ready tracks, seen here. C44-9Ws and SD70MACs are not uncommon here. Of interesting is the KCS SD70ACe, which I shot earlier in the day on the HLAUDEN.
