The train is passing by Xcel Energy's Cherokee Power Plant. The plant generates 928 megawatts of power for the Denver area. It was built as a coal-burning plant in 1968, that was served by Rio Grande (and later SP and UP) for decades. However, in 2017, the plant converted to natural gas and has not burned coal since.
