At least once per day, UP comes to 31st Street from 36th Street to drop off and pick up interchange cars. Likewise, BNSF heads to North Yard from 31st Street to do the same. BNSF 9150 is one of newest units (an SD70ACe) on BNSF's roster. The unit was delivered this year and has EMDs "Whisper Cab". BNSF 520 is a badly faded B40-8W. Case-in-point is this southbound coal load just getting ready to leave the yard in Denver and head for the Joint Line. The newer units have isolated cabs similar to the SD70MAC's from ten year ago. I have heard some crew members say that the cabs of the non-isolated SD70ACe's can be louder than SD40-2's! Today, the units still wear (most of) their original paint. A few EMD logos have been added (as BN returned them to EMD). When first developing AC traction motors, EMD used four SD60M's as prototypes, creating the only SD60MACs ever created. The units were delivered to Burlington Northern as BN 9500 to BN 9503. The units were ultimately returned to EMD and are typically found at the testing facility outside Pueblo. Here, EMDX 9501 is headed north toward the Seattle area for unknown reasons. I happened to catch this same unit on the Joint Line in January 2006, and it was in the H2 scheme on that day. The unit was involved in a head-on collision (and completely destroyed) in June 2006 and was rebuilt in Mexico in June 2007.
