After months of no apparent progress on the second main track west of C&S Junction, UP has gotten its tail in gear in the past few weeks. In this shot, the MNYGJ is heading west on the existing Main (future Main 1) as a tamper sits on future Main 2. BNSF's Golden Sub is on the right side of the picture. You can also see the new signals (turned to the side and not yet activated) for C&S Junction.

More and more, UP is running mid-train swing helpers on its westbound manifests. Such was the case on this morning as the MNYGJ pulls out of C&S Jct on the Main Track. You can see the progress being made by BNSF on the right side of the frame. You can also see the lack of progress made by UP recently on Main 2.

UP has made very little progress on the addition of the second main track in the last several months. The original schedule had the project stated for completion in December. The latest estimate is March. As you can see, concrete ties are standing by (and have been for months), but no rail for Main 2 has been laid yet.

The new bridge over Clear Creek has been completed at C&S Junction. However, rails have not yet been laid over the bridge. Stacks of ties are around, some of which have been laid, but the rail hasn't shown up quite yet.

Progress is being made on the addition of a second main track between C&S Junction and Arvada. In the last two weeks, concrete ties have been laid and a couple stretches of welded rail can be seen alongside the ties. A westbound UP coal empty departs from Bypass 1 westbound.

With a diverging clear signal ahead at C&S Junction, Amtrak will accelerate as it leave four tracks behind (North Yard Siding, Main 3, [Bypass] Main 2, [Bypass] Main 1 from left to right) in favor of the single track Moffat Main ahead.
