At last! With this picture, I finally have a shot of all four Heritage Units leading the California Zephyr. As far as I'm concerned, I saved the best for last. The Phase III scheme has always been my favorite. The Zephyr charges west out of Leyden.

This bridge at the base of Coal Creek Canyon sported Rio Grande lettering (in fly letter, of course) until a derailment here on December 10, 2009 resulted in the lettering being pained over. Regardless, the Phase III Heritage Unit looks mighty fine crossing over the bridge. In my humble opinion, I would like to see Amtrak adopt this scheme for its entire fleet.

About a month ago, the new Pecos Street flyover was completed near Utah Junction. While the bridge will be four lanes, one two are open thus far. Crews also have not yet erected fencing along the edges of the bridge (although the process has started). Here, the MNYGJ is on the left pulling out of North Yard on to the main. BNSF's Beer Run is holding on the North Yard siding waiting on the MNYGJ to get in the clear.

A very colorful (and well-powered) BNSF Provo-Denver manifest wraps its way through Little Ten curve near the west switch of Rocky. If nothing else, just having a trio of Warbonnets on the train is pretty dang nice!

As part of the second main track that UP is (slowly) adding west of C&S, BNSF has to lay the track to reconnect at C&S. Here, you can see a string of ballast cars...and a seas of ballast...sitting, waiting to lay more ballast on the new track.

UP has made very little progress on the addition of the second main track in the last several months. The original schedule had the project stated for completion in December. The latest estimate is March. As you can see, concrete ties are standing by (and have been for months), but no rail for Main 2 has been laid yet.

More and more, UP is running mid-train swing helpers on its westbound manifests. Such was the case on this morning as the MNYGJ pulls out of C&S Jct on the Main Track. You can see the progress being made by BNSF on the right side of the frame. You can also see the lack of progress made by UP recently on Main 2.

This shot at the Sheridan Blvd overpass won't be possible in five to ten years. A new Light Rail bridge will be built over the UP mains right at this spot! In the meantime, however, seven units lead BNSF's HPVODEN (Provo to Denver trackage rights train) toward Denver. They are on what will become Main 1 after the new track project is complete.
