All the UP units in this shot are in full dynamics while the two EMD prototypes are in Run 8. The purpose of the testing is to check the units performance at high altitude, to see how much exhaust is produced when fully loaded and pulling, and test their performance at low speeds. As the sign on the platform indicates, Fraser is 8,574 feet above sea level. In this shot, passengers briefly stretch their legs and get a few pictures on the platform. About 15 minutes before this shot of Amtrak arriving at Fraser, it was actually [i]snowing[/i] pretty hard here at the platform! In addition to picking up and dropping off passengers, Fraser is a designated smoking stop. The Zephyr is a nonsmoking train these days, so there are a few stops where passengers may de-train for a few minutes to get their fix. This is the inside of a Superliner I Sightseer Lounge car.
