Four GE units and a single GP40M-2 head back toward North Yard from Burnham. I thought it was interesting that the doors on the long hood on UP 1526 were open after leaving Burnham! The unit (ex-SSW 7291) was definitely online.

On August 1, 2003, I shot this very same unit when it was still in full, unpatched gray! It was working on the Montrose Local on that particular day.

A pair of light UP units departs northbound on Main 2 from the north Burnham Lead at Walnut Street. The north lead may not be around much longer as RTD's FasTracks project may result in the lead being removed.

An SD70ACe and a AC4400CW lead up a loaded coal train approaching Titan Road just south of Littleton. The train has 120 hoppers and four units for power. This is pretty typical for BNSF and the train won't make much better than 15 MPH for its trip up the Palmer Divide.

The overpass on Titan Road offered a great view of this southbound BNSF Denver-Pueblo manifest. Note the winterization hatches on the radiator fans on the leading SD40-2 and the SD60. Very common on Canadian Pacific units.

At the south end of the Littleton Trench, the sun was finally able to break through the clouds, bringing some great Spring sunlight to this southbound manifest, running through the Trench on Main 2. Imagine, a trio of standard (Spartan) cab EMDs on a mainline freight, on a class one railroad in 2010.

Most shots from Bragdon show southbounds coming off the double track on Main 1. I wanted to find a new perspective, so I found this shot of a northbound approaching Bragdon on Main 2. The diverging route in the picture is used when BNSF trains coming out of Pueblo need to cross over to Main 2, or on the rare occasion when BNSF trains run the "wrong way" on Main 2 from Crews and have to cross back over to the BNSF main into Pueblo. The train approaching a BNSF coal empty that is running on UP's main.

This southbound coal train is passing over I-25 just south of the south switch of Bragdon. At this point, the Joint Line has ended and BNSF trains, such as this one, run on the BNSF track from Bragdon to Pueblo.

A southbound coal load pulls card on Main 1 in the area of Acequia and Blakeland. This shot was taken from the overpass at Titan Road...note Longs Peak in the background, with a surprisingly small amount of snow for March!

This northbound manifest has a really nice consist with an H1 C44-9W followed by a pair of New Image ES44DC's. The train is approaching Walnut Street and will pull up to 20th Street to wait for permission to enter the yard.

About 48 hours after the derailment here in the Littleton Trench a week ago, crews were able to clear and rebuild the freight tracks. However, while Light Rail is being rebuilt, freight traffic is restricted to Main 3. Such is the case here, as a southbound coal load passes through the Form B, give plenty of bell and whistle to the men and equipment in the area.

After the derailment here a week earlier, crews are working to rebuild a retaining wall taken out as a result of the derailment. Crews completely dug out the dirt behind the wall. After rebuilding the wall, the dirt will be replaced, followed by ballast, followed by the northbound Light Rail track.

This southbound has the first mile of its 120 mile journey south to Pueblo in the bag! A new SD70ACe, with ice cycles hanging off the radiator housing, approaching Walnut Street in Denver. The train is currently copying a warrant to proceed into the Track Warrant limits around MP 12.

BNSF has a handful of blue CEFX AC4400CW leasers on the system. They seem to run primarily between the Powder River Basin and Texas. Which means we see a lot of them on the Joint Line in Colorado!

Just south of Chatfield Reservoir is Acequia. The tracks diverge from US-85 along here, but the High Line Canal Trail follows the tracks, offering shots like this one. This southbound coal load has just started on the double track portion of the Joint Line and is in Run 8 for the trip to Palmer Lake.

It took crews about 48 hours to cleanup, repair and reopen the tracks through the Littleton Trench after the derailment on January 17, 2009. A little over a week later, a coal load heads south on Main 3, leaving the trench behind. A couple sets of Herzog trains work on Main 1 in the distance.
