While some coal trains stop in the yard for a crew change, this coal load is going to be taken south to the Lodo Siding (near Kalamath Street) to be tied down. This coal load consisted of unit aluminum hoppers built in April 2009. The hoppers boast a "Rapid Discharge" system. BNSF's Beer Run just got into the yard and will have to enter the OS here at the east end to cut some cars. Hence the reason for the manifest holding here. Unfortunately, a freight train that departed on the Brush Sub ahead of Amtrak got stuck at a red signal, delaying Amtrak about 10 minutes. had the delay not occurred, the sunset would have been a bit more spectacular! An unfortunate accident in the Chicago area on BNSF resulted in a fatality. Amtrak was delayed due to the resulting NTSB investigation.
