At first glance, it might seem as though there is nothing unusual in this shot. Just a group of units hanging out at the ready tracks in North Yard. However, upon closer inspection, note the unit on the left side of the shot. That is a former Espee GP40P-2. The steam generator has of course long since been removed, but the extended long hood and the angled radiators remain.

A Military Special came into Denver off the Limon Sub overnight. It crossed the Belt Main and entered the Main Track at CP DS002. After pulling down to Fox Junction, the crew on the train was ready to depart south on the Joint Line for Fort Carson. But BNSF wasn't ready for the train! With Amtrak coming, the train had to make a reverse move to get in the clear in the North Yard Siding. That worked out well for me as I got a shot of it backing down the main.

Union Pacific has a few Track Geometry cars that it keeps on its roster. These cars are self-propelled, can go up to 70 MPH, and can record every detail about and defect in the rails as they move along. I happened to come across the car sitting in the storage yard in North Yard on this Saturday afternoon. I came in on the Limon Sub earlier in the day, and should be heading for the Joint Line the next day.

Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey

Finally! After several years, I finally got the chance to shoot Ringling Brothers mile-long circus train. This is the "Red Train", one of two trains the circus operates. The other one being the "Blue Train". This train tends to do more shows west of the Mississippi and the Blue Train is usually east of the Mississippi. The circus hauls all of its own equipment, so everything for the shows is kept in these containers!
