Currently stored alongside the main here is a string of switch engines (including several GP15-1s). If you closely, you'll also notice a pair of ACS-64s behind the head end power. The town of New Castle, CO, which the train is passing through, is about 10 miles west of Glenwood Springs and has a population of roughly 2,000 people. The westbound Zephyr, running about 2 1/2 hours late, passes by a Pepsi warehouse at track speed. Glenwood Springs is located beyond the canyon seen to the left side of the frame, in the distance. The Zephyr does not waste much time on that journey! It can go at least 60 MPH for about 55 of those miles, and at least 70 MPH for 40 miles. The westbound MNYRO, with a fresh crew that just got on in Bond, is pulling as well on the siding. It will stop at the west end of Bond and wait for the eastbound Zephyr (which the westbound Zephyr will meet at Dell) before proceeding west. Both eastbound and westbound trains (not running on the Craig Branch) stop in Bond. Westbound trains leave Denver with a Denver-based crew. Upon arriving in Bond, that crew goes to a hotel and a Grand Junction-based crew comes from the hotel. That crew gets on the train and takes it (to their home) in Grand Junction. There was an MNYRO in Bond that was swapping crews as I came through. The new crew started pulling toward the west end of Bond just as the westbound Zephyr came by on the main. In this shot, both trains are moving the same direction, the Zephyr on the main (with a clear signal ahead) and the MNYRO on the siding (with a red signal ahead). The cars are based out of Houston, but were being used on this day to take some passengers from Chicago to San Francisco. Well, Amtrak has a Superliner with a similar ad for Cable Cars in San Francisco. Apparently, the car spent much of last year running on the Coast Starlight and has now moved to the California Zephyr. The engineer is now throttling up as track speed has increased from 20 MPH to 70 MPH! Despite Amtrak receiving a huge number of new baggage cars at the end of 2014, the new cars still haven't made an appearance on the Zephyr. While the company specializes in food and beverage marketing, they own these two cars (which are based out of Houston) and you can charter the cars from the company.
