BNSF runs daily trackage rights trains between Denver, CO and Provo, UT. These trackage rights were granted as a condition of the UP/SP merger in 1996. Here, an eastbound manifest is getting close to its destination. If you look closely, you can see an Approach Diverging (yellow over yellow) signal near the right side of the monitor. The Denver skyline stands tall in the distance.

CitiRail is a locomotive leasing company. BNSF has leased multiple ES44ACs from them during their power shortages in the last year. While the paint scheme may be a tad bland, it is always fun seeing something different!

I have to admit that the Warbonnet paint scheme is very close to the top of my list for all-time favorite schemes. It is a joy to find one in 2015 that is still is great shape, such as this C44-9W. I will truly miss them when they are completely gone.

With BNSF experiencing a shortage of power, they leased a lot of ES44ACs from CitiRail, an engine leasing company. You can see such a unit second out, behind a very good looking Warbonnet on this eastbound manifest. The train is passing by Oberon Middle School, approaching the grade crossing at 72nd Avenue.

A Warbonnet and a leased ES44AC lead an eastbound track rights train on the Moffat. It is a clear and beautiful January day in Colorado with temperature in the mid-50's.

BNSF has offered some colorful power on freights lately. This particular Sunday was no exception! With the Flat Irons visible in the distance, a great looking Warbonnet leads the Provo, UT to Denver, CO trackage rights manifest.

When the Gold Line (commuter rail) opens in 2016, the commuter line to go from two tracks to a single track east of Carr Street, through Olde Town Arvada. As you can see in this view, the tracks that are not in service will eventually converge with the track on the left ahead at a yet-to-be-installed switch. BNSF's tracks will be rebuilt to the right.

The eastbound Beer Run is approaching Carr Street, headed back toward Denver. Currently, the Beer Run has an SD40-2 and a leased SD60. Although difficult to see from this angle, the ditch lights were malfunctioning. The crew spent a lot of time trying to fix the issue, but were unable to do so.

Construction continues on the Gold Line in Arvada. The Gold Line is a new commuter rail line that will run from Denver (Union Station) to Arvada and Wheat Ridge. Currently, BNSF is running on one of the two commuter rail lines. A new track for BNSF will be built off to the left and the commuter tracks will be used exclusively by the commuter trains.

Always nice to get a shot of a "goat boat" from time-to-time. The original Heritage scheme (seen here) is very close to the Great Northern railroad (ancestor of Burlington Northern), which had a goat in its herald, hence the "goat" part of the nickname. Second generation GE diesels (U25B, U30C, etc) were referred to as "U-boats". While a C44-9W is not necessary a "U-boat" in that sense, "boat" rhymes with "goat", so there ya go!

Over the course of the last decade, BNSF's SD75Ms and SD75Is have bounced between active service and storage. With the recent boom in oil-by-rail, they have been reactivated. I am personally grateful for this as I never complain about seeing a Warbonnet through the view finder! Note the one (out of place) door on the long hood. You may also notice that the first number on the cab seems to be covered. That is because, in order to fit the (re)activated SD75s in to the roster, they were renumber from the 8200-series to the 200-series (their original numbers when delivered to Santa Fe).

An eastbound BNSF manifest sports a mighty fine (and diverse) consist of power just west of Leyden. A BNSF ES44DC in the New Image scheme is on the point. A (borrowed) UP ES44AC is second out. The Warbonnet SD75M and (Original) Heritage C44-9W are looking pretty good.

Most shots between Leyden and Rocky are taken from the north side of the tracks. However, with the continuing construction of Leyden Rock (a new neighborhood in Arvada) on the south side of the tracks, it is a bit easier to find new angles from the south side. Such is the case here as a BNSF manifest makes its way east toward Leyden where it will take the siding.

An eastbound BNSF train makes its way east through Barbara's Gulch. If you look just above the train (on the left side of the photo), you can make out the tracks as they cut across the mountain at Eisele (formerly Clay).

On a very chilly January morning, a KCS-led BNSF (trackage rights) manifest approaches the grade crossing at Simms Street in Arvada. There was no horn to be heard at this moment, as the grade crossing at Simms Street has been converted to a "quiet zone", to keep Arvada a little quieter.
