The "sharp left" is in railroad terms, of course. The siding and the main at Broomfield are, for the most part, on separate grades and there is quite a bit of distance between them in places. The first of two northbounds the HLAUDEN will meet is sitting on the main, waiting for the train to get in the clear and then to get a track warrant to proceed north. The green "Southern" heritage unit is the third Norfolk Southern heritage unit that I've been fortunate to catch in Colorado. However, for reasons unknown, it was pulled off its train and stayed the night in Cheyenne. It then made a run down the Front Range Sub in fantastic afternoon light on this day instead! A BNSF Coal empty is approaching the BNSF yard (the train is ultimately headed for the Powder River Basin in northern Wyoming) while all four UP main tracks currently lie empty and quiet. A Great Western crew brought the train to this point (it was interchanged from the Great Western). A BNSF crews has been called out of Cheyenne and was enroute at the time of this picture. How about the fact that there isn't a "BNSF" patch visible anywhere on the engineer's side! Not sure why there isn't one, but I'm not complaining about a Warbonnet that looks to be "pure Santa Fe" in 2014, 19 years after the creation of BNSF. A Warbonnet matched up with a Canadian Nations C40-8M (a cowl unit), sitting together on a "blade train" (windmill blades) in the siding at North Yard. A Great Western crew just brought this train from the Vestas plant in Windsor, CO and tied it down here on the siding at North Yard. I doubt that will every change. So, when there is a train (even if it is a local) that is running with a solid set of SD40-2s, it makes me happy! This southbound local has a trio of SD40-2s for power. The lead unit has the "white face" that Burlington Northern developed to try to increase visibility to oncoming trains. You may recall that they also developed an "orange face" as well that was applied to some GP50s. So if you use your imagination, maybe that second BNSF SD40-2 is just an orange face GP50! The bridge that carries US-36 over the tracks in Westminster is being rebuilt, requiring a Form B to protect the construction workers. Everyone is in the clear here and the empty is now headed for Broomfield where it will run through the siding and meet a southbound.
