Not long ago, BNSF would frequently use older power on the Beer Run in the form of SD40-2s or something similar. These days, it tends to run with newer power, such as the C44-9W and ES44DC seen here. The SD40-2s will be dropped off in Golden and used on the Golden Switcher (local) in the upcoming week.

BNSF's Beer Run is offering up a lot of "bell and whistle" as it heads west toward Sheridan Blvd. The BNSF train is moving close to UP track gangs working on the new main track. You can see the future Main 2 (with concrete ties) to the left of the train in the picture. The new (freshly ballasted) Arvada Siding is right next to the BNSF track.

Until the new main track is actually put in service (expected to be May 2012 at the time of this photo), the new switches at C&S Junction are hand-throw. So, when BNSF's Beer Train comes through, a UP guy on the ground has to manually throw both sides of the crossover (from Main 1 to Main 2), the switch from Main 2 to the Golden Branch and the Derail on the Golden Branch. Here, you can see the Beer Run crossing over from Main 1 to Main 2 and you can also see that the Derail has been properly aligned in the foreground.

Once the new main track is completed between C&S Junction and Arvada, C&S Junction is going to become a long OS. In other words, there is going to be a great distance between the eastbound and westbound signals. The distance between signals will be nearly a half a mile! Here, BNSF's Beer Train departs from Main 3 in the distance as the yet-to-be-activated new signal for Main 1 stands facing the side in the foreground.
