A derailment earlier in the day stopped Amtrak for about six hours! Here, the train is moving at track speed (around 79 MPH) past the west switch of Tonville. Normally, the train would pass this location sometime around 6:30am! Today, though, it is almost 12:30pm, due to a derailment at this same switch (note the maintenance crews). The Brush Sub Dispatcher would talk Amtrak past the signal and it would continue unhindered the rest of the way into Denver. Shortly after noon, number 5 finally got the okay to pass through the site at walking speed. Here, the train is approaching the east switch of Hudson at 10 MPH. The train is about to enter the northern end of BNSF's 38st Street Yard. With both coal mains occupied, this load will go down the main track and tie down in the Lodo Siding on the other side of 23rd Street. This was one of the experiments and it is a one-of-a-kind. It is often referred to as the "vomit-bonnet" because many railfans do not care for the "copy-cat" of the famous warbonnet.
