The SD75's were not a hugely popular model (as far as a lot of models go). Between the SD75M and the SD75I, only 207 units were ever produced. Because everybody goes to work in the "salt mines"! The power on this day was very unique. Two former Santa Fe units - a GP60M and a B40-8 - work the switch job. True, it is completely irrelevant as far as the operation of the train goes, but I'd prefer to see a cab and not the tail end of a unit as the train is leaving me! Regardless, a single C44-9W helps push on the back of the HLAUDEN as it approaches Boulder with the Flatirons in the background. The train, just a bit south of 63rd Avenue in northern Boulder, will slow down drastically when it runs through the main parts of Boulder. Pre-World War I, the DRGW track and the ATSF track crossed one another here...you can still see the remains of the bridge where the two tracks crossed. BNSF 6085 south sits in the "Sag" at Spruce a few miles north of Palmer Lake. The train has a yellow signal and will have to wait for a few northbounds before continuing south. In ABS territory, signals are used for block detection only and do NOT grant authority. In the case of the east end of the siding of Hoehne, both signals show clear as there is nothing approaching from the east. In ABS, all signals essentially act as intermediates in CTC.
