The train just met the Winter Park Express, but another eastbound is waiting for the Moffat Tunnel to vent and head through. So, the sand train must wait...much to the disappointment of the crew as the heavy train will not be easy (or fast) to start up! I was lucky enough to have one hit just as this westbound BNSF sand train came rolling by on the approach to a Diverging Approach (red over yellow) signal at East Tolland. The second and third units are so dirty, they are great 21st century representatives of Grande and Espee units from 40 years ago! That'll happen when you are only making 7-10 MPH through the tunnels in the Tunnel District! "Find the pink car, win a prize"! In all seriousness, this was the only car on the train painted in this gumball color. A very interesting car indeed. With only five units (three on the point and two on the rear), this crazy heavy train is making an average speed of about 10 MPH up the Moffat. This is due to the fact that this is actually the second of two lounge cars on this westbound Zephyr. The reason? "Train Jam" is an event in which the entire train is rented out by a single group that bring along software gaming developers to travel by train to the annual Gaming Developers Conference held in San Francisco. Amtrak has added an extra sleeper, an extra coach, and an extra lounge car compared to the standard Zephyr compliment for the event. Amtrak this morning has ten Superliners, including two Sightseer Lounge cars! That's because the entire train has been rented out for an event known as "Train Jam". The entire train is carrying software gaming developers on their way to the "Game Developers Conference" in San Francisco. Because the entire train has been rented out, and because all passengers have a common destinations, Amtrak will not be stopping at most of the stations along the route.
