Don't usually get the chance to shoot from the north side of the tracks at Leyden, but the cloudy day presented a nice opportunity to do so. It departs from either yard on Monday's, Wednesday's, and Friday's. More often than not, it is dark when the train makes it to Colorado. On this Tuesday, however, the train happened to come east in the morning. And with an interesting power configuration to boot! Loved the five SD70s (two SD70ACes and two SD70Ms) leading the train. The train is charging west at about 60 MPH (track speed) as it hustles through Leyden. The train has to take advantage of the higher track speed while it can, because in another four miles or so, it's time to slow to about 30 MPH! This sand is fracking sand, which will be used to extract oil from wells in Utah. It is entirely possible this power will be used on a loaded oil train on the trip back east in the not-too-distant future.
