This oil empty received a diverging clear (red over green) signal at Palmer Lake and is continuing north on Main 2. If you look very closely, you might notice a grass-covered filled to the left of the train. That is part of the north leg of a wye that once existed on Main 2, decades ago.

There's not that many originally-painted Heritage units left on BNSF's roster. BNSF 1100 is one such example. This C44-9W was one of the first units delivered to BNSF after the BN/ATSF merger in 1995.

BNSF's Denver to Amarillo works its way through "The Sag" on Main 1, about two miles north of Palmer Lake. There is an oil train sitting on the single track just south of Palmer Lake, getting ready to proceed north on Main 2. This manifest will wait here until it gets a light to proceed south on the single track main.

This southbound manifest slowly snakes its way through the curves just north of Sedalia on Main 1. The manifest has a single DPU on the end of the train, not quite in sight in the distance.

AMTK 151 and AMTK 169 cross over the two main tracks at the north end of the BNSF Pikes Peak Subdivision. Coal trains moving back and forth between the Powder River Basin and Texas (largely) pass over the two mains here. RTD's B-Line and G-Line commuter rails cross over the diamond at this location, too.

The morning Zephyr is working on getting out of Denver, crossing the north end of the Joint Line on Buck Lead. As you can see, there is a switch against the Zephyr, and the train has come to a stop. A conductor will hop off the train and walk up and throw the switch so the Zephyr can continue west. This is why the Zephyr will sometimes make a stop or two when departing.

While this is technically south of Greenland, CO, the months of May and June are typically the only time of year when this area actually lives up to the name of being a green land. A CN-led grain train is currently stopped in The Sag, waiting for its turn to head south at Palmer Lake. A northbound is visible in the distance on Main 2.

After the coal load ahead got a signal to continue south into the single track territory of the Joint Line south of Palmer Lake, this CN-led train train is now sitting in The Sag, waiting for its turn to continue south. After several hours of thunderstorms, there was a 10 minute break in the clouds, allowing for some fantastic sunlight to break through.

Two units lead a northbound Q-Train on Main 2 a few miles north of Palmer Lake. You can see the train is passing an intermediate signal. The train is currently operating under a track warrant as Main 2 of the Joint Line has not had CTC added to it like Main 1 has. The Boeing 737 fuselage is a nice find on the train.

A southbound BNSF coal load is stopped on Main 1 at The Sag between Greenland and Palmer Lake. It is waiting on the second of two northbound trains. There is a massive thunderstorm coming off from the Rockies and over Colorado Springs. You can see the north face of Pikes Peak in the distance to the left.
