A trio of SD70ACes leads this eastbound Provo-Denver as it approaches the west end of Leyden. While much of the mid-west is buried under multiple inches of snow, the Denver area has seen hardly any snowfall so far this winter season.

This BNSF oil train, like all oil trains on the Moffat, was loaded at the Transload facility in Wellington, UT. Interestingly, I shot this train about a week earlier, on New Year's Eve, when it was headed west on the Moffat in Arvada.

After spending several hours tied down in the siding at Rocky, waiting for a fresh crew, this BNSF oil train is back on the move in Barbara's Gulch.

Two SD70ACes are DPU'd on the tail end of this eastbound Provo-Denver. The train is passing through the east OS here at Fraser. Note the derail switch, currently aligned for the derail position, protecting the siding at Fraser.

BNSF 9039 is the last unit on a train that had an all EMD consist as it crosses Eisenhower Drive. Plenty of fresh powder is being kicked up by the train as it climbs the roughly 2% grade toward the Moffat Tunnel.

BNSF 9051 and train are crossing over Fraser Valley Parkway. The road leads to, among other things, the Fraser Tubing Hill. Another popular winter destination for people, particularly those that do not ski or snow board. It is currently around 20°F (-7°C). Fortunately, there is no wind, so the temperature doesn't feel too bad.

BNSF's Provo-Denver is kicking up some snow as it moves west up the 2% grade between Tabernash and the Moffat Tunnel. Of note, the train has a long string of empty well cars in the consist today.

Three BNSF SD70ACes lead an eastbound manifest, the Provo-Denver, on the mainline at Fraser. The train is passing by the eastbound Winter Park Express Ski Train, tied down in the siding, awaiting for its time to move to the platform to pick up passengers at 3:45pm or so.

After meeting both the westbound Zephyr and a UP oil empty at Tabernash, this BNSF Provo-Denver is now getting its turn to run through Fraser. It just knocked down a clear (green) signal at the west switch of Fraser. You can see all the way back to Tabernash, way off in the distance.

A final closing shot for the day as a pair of BNSF's DPUs bring up the tail end of the Provo-Denver. You can see the control point name, "DS016 Rocky" clearly on the signal control box here at the east end of Rocky. The train is disappearing around the bend into Barbara's Gulch.

With only (roughly) 17 miles to go until reaching the yard, this eastbound BNSF manifest leaves Rocky behind and starts into the narrow west end of Barbara's Gulch. Not far ahead, the top speed for freight trains will increase, and the train should make good time from here on in to Denver.

This is a classic shot from the Moffat, but one that I never really get tired of! This eastbound BNSF manifest is on clear (green) signals on the main at Rocky. The DPUs at the end of the train are headed geographically north, but will soon wrap through Little Ten Curve, following the rest of the train eastbound.

Just before 2pm, BNSF's Provo-Denver is making its way through the multiple curves between Tunnel 1 and the west end of Eisele (Clay). Although there are six units on the head end, only three of them are actually online. The trailing three are all catching a ride on the train this afternoon.

BNSF 9037 is blowing its horn as it approaches the grade crossing at Blue Mountain Drive, rolling along at track speed. In the distance, you can clearly see the back half of the train, still descending from Tunnel 1 on the other side of CO-72.

Six units lead BNSF's Provo-Denver manifest out of Tunnel 1 and down the hill toward the base of Coal Creek Canyon. The conductor has his window open on BNSF 9037 as it is actually unseasonably warm here. Temperatures are right around 50°F (10°C) this afternoon!
