The local spotted two gondolas with tie plates and some MOW equipment in the house track at Rocky, and is now returning to North Yard. The lead unit is UP 1357. This particular GP40-2 is very familiar with the Moffat. It started life as DRGW 3102, delivered to the Grande in April 1972. Rumors of a substantial work project on the Moffat have been swirling around. It has been said that the work project, whatever it might be, will last until December. There are a slew of UP track engineers on the train. Equipment on the train scans the rails for proper gauging, defects, and other items, ensuring everything is in order. The signal at the west end is showing a red. Interestingly, DS-378 showed the signal as being aligned westbound, and was a bit surprised to hear it was red from UP 4533. In June, UP's passenger equipment ran west over the Moffat. In July, UP 4014 brought a train from Cheyenne to Denver. Then, UP 1616 did the same thing on the Greeley Sub. Later, passenger equipment went west over the Moffat. Now, a UP engineering special heads west, climbing the north leg of Big Ten Curve, with a single SD70M for power.
