EMDX 1609, still largely sporting Union Pacific colors, sits in North Yard, waiting to head west. Note the primer color around the radiator housing and part of the long hood. No doubt EMD has been conducting testing and upgrades on the unit.

Two of several SD70ACe-T4 demonstrators, painted in UP paint, have been returned to EMD. Electro-Motive Diesel tests the units and looks for means of improving the model. The units are headed west, currently waiting for a train assignment that will take them that direction.

EMD originally built a couple dozen SD70ACe-T4 demonstrator units. some were painted for and delivered to Union Pacific, BNSF, and Norfolk Southern. Two of these units, EMDX 1608 and EMDX 1609, have been at the Transportation Technology Center near Pueblo, but are now making their way west. The units were sitting near the North Yard tower on this afternoon, waiting to be added to UP's MNYGR to head west.

A GP40N and an SD40N, both rebuilt from their previous Dash-2 models, sit in the foreground. There is a smattering of classic EMD power sitting around, as the power on UP's MGRNY gets ready to pull away from the train it just brought into the yard.

Just a nice, afternoon overview of North Yard! There isn't much power to spare in the yard this afternoon, with most of the power visible used either in local work or yard job.

Another completed trip from Green River, WY to North Yard here in Denver. UP's MGRNY has arrived and is working on breaking the train up between Track 3 and Track 4 in the yard. At 5500 feet, the train was too long to fit on a single yard track, as Track 3 is only around 3500 feet long.

Considering how time marches on and things continue to change, I always figure it is a good idea to get shots of some of the Denver rail infrastructure. 20 years from now, this could all be apartments...
