The track way off to the far right is UP's track which runs to Julesburg, CO and the Overland Route. That track only sees about a train a week, when a local runs from Julesburg to Sterling and back. The buildings and commuter rail increase as the freight rails, at best, stay unchanged if not decrease. One such overpass crosses UP's 36th Street Yard in Denver. This offers a new perspective on the yard that was not previously possible! Here, we can see units used on locals and for switching in the yard (to the right), and some units on the "ready track" to the left. The train is deadheading back to Cheyenne from Denver. Once there, UP 844 will be put away in the steam shop and the cars will likely wind up heading back to Council Bluffs, IA, where they are kept when not being used. Interestingly, the GP38-2 working is numbered 825. This was once the number of one of UP's 4-8-4 "Northern" class steam engines, just like UP 844! UP has shut down the shops and will most likely sell the land to a developer. Soon, this view will likely be filled with condos! A few months before that and you would have found lots of power stored on (or waiting for maintenance on) those tracks. Now, the tracks have been removed with the closing of Burnham Yard. When the City of Denver wanted to build the 8th Avenue overpass, the main shops were smack in the middle of where 8th Avenue would run. So, the city built the overpass with a bend in it and it went around the south end of the building. Here is said building (Building #14) with the overpass in front of it. The tie plates used to lie underneath the rails of the "coach yard" on the west side of Burnham. Now, only a single track remain intact...and that track has DRGW 3006 - in additional to other equipment - currently resting on it.
