It must have been added to an eastbound oil train at Wash...perhaps even this exact train, and ran east for unloading. In any case, it is now headed west on the siding at Eisele (Clay). It is meeting an eastbound coal empty (yes, an empty), holding the main. The conductor for the eastbound is on the ground to give the oil train a roll by. An SD70ACe-T4 leads the empty as it approach a red over yellow (Diverging Approach) signal at the east switch of Eisele (Clay). UP 6300 is on the east end of the rock train, and is currently tied down. Note the red flag just east of the unit. This particular AC4400CW is approaching its 30th birthday. The main between switches is currently out-of-service. All of this rip rock is going to be placed rail side, much of it on Big Ten Curve to shore up the tracks on the relatively soft ground. The train is waiting on MOW to clear up west of Rocky. Once they get the green, the train will head west to drop off some strips of rail at various locations between Plain and Cliff. This is one of roughly 100 Tier-4 EMD units that UP has on their roster. The complexity and expense of the units has resulted in minimal sales in the United States. Class 1 railroads are instead choosing to rebuild older units on the roster to give them an extended life. It is cheaper than investing in the Tier-4 units. The train only has a handful of strips of welded rail, which are to be dropped off in various locations between Plain and Cliff. The foliage has greened up for Spring, and the temperatures generally are not too unbearably hot just yet! Regarding the green scenery, a case-in-point is here at East Leyden as UP's MGJNY heads east for the final ten or so miles toward North Yard. The West Local brought the car out on May 7, 2025. After a derailment at Rocky on Friday, which still has the main out-of-service, it sure would be nice if the siding at Leyden was open for meets! In additional to the manifest rolling east through the siding at Rocky, we see a regulator on the main to the right. You might also notice that the spur switch to the Rocky Flats Industrial Lead is also open. The main track here at Rocky is currently out-of-service. UP is checking for track damage on the main after a derailment last Friday. They are also storing some MOW equipment on the main and on the spur in the meantime. This is the tank car that derailed on the BNSF Provo-Denver last Friday morning. The truck on the right side popped off the rail and was dragged along for several hundred feet before the train came to a stop. Fortunately, no other cars derailed, and no cars fell over! A new wheel set has been placed under the car, but it still remains in the house track at Rocky until BNSF can come and take it back to Denver. Note the solar-powered weather station to the right. It measures, among other things, the current wind speed and reports it back to UP headquarters in Omaha.
