With the coal train completely loaded, this Utah Railway power is headed back west to the other end of the loadout track. Once there, it will move back to the loaded rain (seen in the distance) and hook on to start the pull back over Soldier Summit to the west.

This Utah Railway coal train is creeping along at around 1/2 MPH as it is loaded at the Wildcat Loadout. This SD50 was cut in between a quartet of MK50-3s.

A couple of miles beyond Utah Railways yard at Martin lies the Wildcat Loadout. This loadout was closed for a couple of years for work at the mines. It is active once again however and Utah Railway loads a few trains here a week.

Even though the gray and red Utah Railway scheme is still the dominant paint scheme on the railroad, the orange Genesee and Wyoming scheme isn't going anywhere. UR 6060, an SD50, was just recently repainted in the bright new colors.

Utah Railway's headquarters are located at Martin on the west side of Helper, UT. Here, they have a small yard and an engine maintenance facility. The old corporate headquarters building (prior to the Genesee and Wyoming takeover) is also visible along with a water tower.

At Fox Junction, there is a pedestrian bridge built over the tracks. On my way down off the bridge, this shot through the framework of the bridge caught my eye.

Approaching Fox Junction, this blade train is slowly rolling down BNSF's New North Main at Rennicks. The track to the left of the blade train is UP's main line and the only track visible under CTC.

Okay, so what's the deal? A new BNSF paint scheme that is just starting to be rolled out? Nope. BNSF bought several former leaser units from GATX Locomotive Rail Group (similar to this unit) and rather than spending the money to completely repaint the units, they matched the colors and applied their logo.

One word came to mind when I first spied these three units through the view finder: ouch! The Warbonnet has definitely seen better days, but that Dash-9 in the middle is really hurting. Man, I can't stand taggers...

A scattering of EMD power is not at all uncommon in BNSFs yards. Evening though some of these units are 40 years old, they are still going strong! One unit in this shot, BNSF 2700, has been hanging out in Denver for over seven years now!

Three classic EMD units wearing three very different paint schemes! BNSF has been rebuilding and renumbering several SD40-2s including 1766.

At first glance, it might seem as though there is nothing unusual in this shot. Just a group of units hanging out at the ready tracks in North Yard. However, upon closer inspection, note the unit on the left side of the shot. That is a former Espee GP40P-2. The steam generator has of course long since been removed, but the extended long hood and the angled radiators remain.
