Two UP DPU's head east (away from the camera) on the end of a loaded coal train. The train stopped at the grade crossing at Cliff (at the east end) for a quick crew change. Meanwhile, Espee 9794 leads a unit pipe train tied down on the siding at Cliff.

This is about the best shot I could get on the "sunny" side of this unit pipe train. Unfortunately, the west end of Cliff is not the best place to get shots lighting-wise, and this unit pipe train led by Espee GP60 #9794 was tied down and not going anywhere for quite some time!

You don't see this everyday! In fact, these days, it'll probably never happen again! Unpatched Espee GP60 #9794 leads two CSX ES44DCs on a unit pipe train at Cliff. I can't even remember the last time I saw a mainline train led by a four axle unit prior to this shot. The train was tied down on the siding due to maintenance ahead.

A version of the Daylight Scheme lives again. Considering the possibilities of Daylight, Black Widow, and Bloody Nose schemes, I think the design team did a wonderful job on the Southern Pacific Heritage Unit.

UP 1996 probably has more reflective decals on it than any of the other Heritage Units. Gives it a bit of a cool look though, as seen here in this shot.

The sun has broken through the early morning clouds to cast a nice light on this westbound (geographically headed north) "Terror Creek Turn". It is a short coal load coming from the low-producing coal mine named Terror Creek.

One of the few remaining unpatched Espee units at the time of this photo was leading this Somerset-bound coal empty in Dominguez Canyon along the Gunnison River. The head end of the train is approaching the siding of Bridgeport while the tail end is still coming out of Bridgeport Tunnel, 24 miles south of Grande Junction.

Positioned underneath the the loadout, the train is about to start pulling west under the loadout. The engineer will set a "cruise-control" type function on the lead AC that will keep the speed steady at 1.5 MPH while loading.

Espee (and former Espee) power is not at all uncommon on the North Fork Subdivision. Particularly AC4400's from 100-199 on Espee's roster. This is because these units were not equipped with DPU capability. Coal trains on the North Fork run with two units on the point; no extra help. Therefore, it makes sense to use units that can't be utilized as DPU units elsewhere.
