Three units lead an eastbound oil train through a snow February scene, approaching the west switch of Rocky. There is a westbound empty in the siding at Rocky, so UP 5919 has its headlights dimmed so as not to blind the crew on the westbound.

A recently rebuilt and repainted C44ACM, UP 5919, leads an eastbound oil load along the south ridge of Big Ten Loop, kicking up a little bit of snow as it rolls along. The train has an interesting power configuration, with three units on the head end, three mid-train DPUs, and nothing on the end.

This eastbound BNSF manifest has a pretty standard configuration with a trio of units on the head end and a pair of DPUs bringing up the rear. On this cold February morning, an SD70ACe and an ES44AC have the duty.

A fresh crew for UP 7877 was recently dropped off and the conductor just finished removing the hand brakes from some of the cars on the train. He has returned to the head end and is giving an eastbound BNSF manifest a roll by before climbing up into the cab. It is a cold day for untying hand brakes, with the temperature a rather frigid 12°F (-11°C).

BNSF pretty consistently runs oil trains in a 3x(0)x3 configuration on the Moffat, and this train is no example. A trio of units bring up the rear of the train as it rolls east out the east end of Crescent. In the distance, you can just spy the plains through Elderado Canyon.

Second out on this eastbound BNSF oil load is a Kansas City Southern de Mexico ES44AC. BNSF seems to lease KCS and KCSM units somewhat often as it is not super uncommon to catch one of these guys on a BNSF train in Colorado.

An loaded BNSF oil train crosses the grade crossing at Crescent, rolling eastbound on the main. The train will meet a westbound oil empty at Plain. The westbound is actually already at Plain, awaiting the arrival of this eastbound.

This westbound BNSF unit oil train has a single ES44AC "sticker" unit bringing up the rear of the train. BNSF is the only US Class 1 railroad that has not done a true heritage unit. However, in 2020, for the 25th anniversary of the creation of BNSF, they released several of these anniversary units with stickers of the key railroads that went into making BNSF. Not exactly a true heritage unit, but better than nothing!

A westbound BNSF oil empty heads west in the OS at Pecos. The train was recrewed south of Denver on the Joint Line and came across UP Main 1 at Prospect to get to the Moffat, completely bypassing BNSF's actual yard in Denver.

In between the running of trains, railroads have a rather large contingent of maintenance personnel. Many of them use hi-rail trucks to drive on the rails and ensure the track is in shape. One such UP MOW hi-rail truck is headed east on Bypass 2 in the OS at Pecos, headed for Broadway.
