Crossing over Lone Tree Creek, this northbound manifest is leaving the final siding on the Greeley Sub, Carr, behind. The next stop will be Speer, Wyoming, where a crew change will take place.

A southbound local slowly rolls toward a red signal at the south end of Carr as the northbound it is meeting descends from the horizon on the approach to the south switch. UP's DS-14 has set up for a pretty good meet between the two trains.

86 miles north of Denver, at the north switch of Carr, a southbound local crosses over Lone Tree Creek as it approaches a diverging approach (red over yellow) signal. It will be taking the siding to meet a northbound manifest. Fall colors are starting to show their...well...colors!

For as long as I can remember, the water tower in the town of Nunn has displayed the saying "Watch Nunn Grow". In 1910, the population of Nunn was 143 people and, as of 2020, that has indeed grown to 504 people! Meanwhile, a northbound manifest cuts through town on the mainline.

On a beautiful, crystal clear October morning, UP 9006 leads a manifest north across the South Platte river between La Salle and Greeley on the Greeley Sub. The rail bridge parallels US-85, whose supports are just visible in the background.

This northbound manifest has come to stop on the main at La Salle. I did not hear any conversations on the scanner, so I am not sure sure the stop was made. It only last about 10 minutes.

UP 2047 is one of numerous rebuilt SD40-2s on UP's roster in 2023. The unit now carries the designation SD40N, indicating that it has in fact gone through the rebuild program. Great to see one is arguable the most reliable diesel-electric unit ever built still in active service.

Just north of the town of Platteville along US-85, UP 9006 leads three other units on an 8,000-foot manifest. UP 9006 is a "Tier-4 Credit Unit". UP, like many Class 1 railroads, used carbon credits to purchase some Tier-3 compliant units after the deadline.

A week ago, I got a shot of BNSF 6705 sitting right here near the Vesta plant in Brighton. A week later, and sister unit BNSF 8102 has joined 6705! Not sure why these units are sitting here along the Greeley Sub. They must be power share units as BNSF has no trackage rights on the Greeley Sub.

A well-blocked northbound manifest leaves Denver behind between the sidings of Hazeltine and Brighton. The train has a quartet of units on the point, include an SD40-2.

A northbound manifest headed for North Platte sits in the siding at Hazeltine. UP 2632 and UP 8815 provide the power with UP 1370 catching a ride. The size of the newer units compared to the 50 year old GP40-2 is very apparent!

One of the 200 Tier-4 compliant ET44ACs that UP owns leads a northbound MDVNP in the siding at Hazeltine, just north of Denver. GE has, as of this photo, sold 1,117 Tier-4 units to six Class 1 railroads. By comparison, EMD has sold only 100 Tier-4 compliant SD70ACe-T4s, all to UP.

A GP40-2 is third out on a northbound manifest headed for North Platte, NE. With the closure of Burnham in Denver, no major repairs can be done in Denver. More than likely, the unit is headed to the shops there for maintenance. Incidentally, this particularly GP40-2 was originally DRGW 3119.

The Denver skyline and Rocky Mountains stand clear in the distance as a northbound manifest rolls on the siding at Hazeltine, meeting a southbound. Love how the view shows the Greeley Sub continuing straight toward the city.
