It has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. While the exterior has changed little, the interior has been remodeled extensively. In particular, it now houses the Crawford Hotel. The Christmas tree and Christmas decorations have all be put up for the holiday season. While the infrastructure was not changed with the redevelopment of the area, the inside of Union Station was pretty significantly remodeled. New restaurants and the Terminal Bar were added. The FRA will not allow it to open due to issues with crossing gates staying down too long from time-to-time. However, RTD is allowed to test with empty trains. This single track bridge is close to a mile long and takes the A-Line from along Smith Road and the Limon Sub over the tracks and over I-70 in order to parallel Pena Blvd to DIA. While Denver has had "Light Rail" trains for 20 years, "Commuter Rail" is new to Denver. These trains are heavier, take more "juice" to run (from the catenary overhead), have more seats, and can move at 79 MPH (versus 55 MPH for Light Rail). Here, a train from DIA arrives at Track 1.
