In fact, the last five cars of the train are the Superliners that were used on the Winter Park Express Ski Train this winter season. The unit came to Denver a week earlier and was used on a special move on BNSF's Front Range Sub from Denver to Longmont (and back) the previous day. This grade crossing will not be around too much longer as a grade separation between the tracks and 72nd Avenue will be coming in the next few years. As a kid, it was one of my favorite things to watch. I specifically recall one scene filmed right here, atop Rainbow Cut. The Zephyr lost nearly four hours between the two cities. It lost some more time on the journey west, and ultimately departed Denver roughly five hours late.
