As it turns out, I had to settle for just the pair of GP40-3s. Most likely, the crew is making a training run west to Glenwood Springs. While the Front Range of Colorado is no stranger to snow, it is fairly typical for a storm to hit, and 2-3 days later, the snow has all but melted. However, this winter, frequent storms every few days and colder-than-average temperatures have resulted in the snow sticking around. Passengers enjoy the frigid winter scene from the confines of the westbound Zephyr here at the Blue Mountain road crossing. During a roll by, the person (or people) conducting them will watch the passing train for anything that appears to be out of the ordinary. Equipment hanging off of a car, an open door on a hopper. Anything that might raise some concerns. In this instance, nothing unusual was spotted by Amtrak's engineer.
