Just east of Leyden, a trio of GEs leads a relatively short Provo-Denver manifest eastbound toward Denver. The manifest is right around 4,000 feet long. Most BNSF manifest are, on average, right around a mile long. The scene is a cool mix of fall and winter mixed together as many trees and shrubs still retain their red and yellow leaves. It has been a few years since this much snow has fallen in early November.

BNSF's Provo-Denver departs from the east end of Leyden on an Advanced Approach (flashing yellow) signal. Three units lead the manifest by a tree that is still sporting fall colors as a lot of snow falls.

DOTX 220, catching a ride on the back of the westbound Zephyr, is a Federal Railroad Administration track inspection car. The FRA has both manned and unmanned cars at its disposal, and this 1954-built Pullman car is an example of a manned car.

The Zephyr has a Federal Railroad Administration car in tow on the journey west this morning. The car is DOTX 221, originally built by the Pullman Standard in 1954. A fellow railfan also setup for a shot, and is standing alongside the rails.

Days like today are some of my favorite to get out and get a few shots when trains are playing in the snow! Fortunately, it is not extremely cold at the moment. Only 31°F (-1°C), so travel is not too difficult. The snow, however, is coming down hard as the westbound Zephyr approaches just west of Leyden.

A major snow storm moved into the Denver Metro area yesterday and is continuing this morning, with plenty of additional snow falling. The westbound Zephyr is taking on the storm as it charges west on the main just west of Leyden.

A pair of elephant-style P42DCs leads a standard Zephyr in the midst of an early November snow storm. About three inches has fallen so far, with a few more expected today.

A November snow storm has settled in on the Denver-Metro area overnight and continues this morning. Most of the deciduous trees are still holding onto their leaves, creating an interesting mix of fall colors and white snow. The westbound Zephyr, running right on time, approaches the camera between 68th Avenue and Kipling Street in Arvada, a few miles east of Leyden.

An AC4400CW and a (increasingly rare) "green and cream" SD70MAC bring up the tail end of BNSF's Provo-Denver manifest on the main at Leyden. The train passes by a string of empty gondolas, currently tied down for long term storage in the siding.

It has been a little while since I have seen one of these 25th Anniversary "sticker units". Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern, and CSX have all created heritage unit. Depending on the railroad, these units are either exact replicas for previous railroads, or artistic variations of previous railroads. BNSF has, to date, not created any heritage units. In 2020 (the 25th anniversary of BNSF), they did release ten of these units that sport the heralds of many of the railroads that ultimately went in to making up BNSF.

Well, I cannot tell you why, but for some reason, the nose door is missing from this Ferromex SD70ACe! The unit is currently power-shared with BNSF. I cannot help but wonder if the unit is making its way back to Mexico and home rails so the nose - and whatever else might need repairing - can be fixed.

Nine BNSF units and a single Ferromex unit are all on the point of an eastbound Provo-Denver manifest on the main at Leyden. Only the first three units are actually online (working). The trailing five are just along for the ride! The train is approaching an Advanced Approach (flashing yellow) at the east end of Leyden.

BNSF's Provo-Denver has a long string of power this morning as it roles through Leyden. Eight units on the point, only three of which are online, and two DPUs on the end. The snow that fell 24 hours prior has melted below about 6,000 feet, but snow still clings to the foothills in the distance.

On a snowy day with clouds hanging very low in the sky, the westbound Zephyr approaches the east portal of Tunnel 1. The clouds have actually lifted slightly in the last two hours, and should clear out even more later in the day.
