That may seem like a lot, but when you consider the immediate predecessor (ES44AC/DC/C4) had 6,451 units produced, you can see the difference. It is somewhat surprising that, after four years, BNSF has not yet paint or swapped out the long hood on the unit to get back to a uniform scheme. A long hood from a Warbonnet must have been the only long hood available at the time, creating this interesting clash between Warbonnet and Heritage 2 paint. Modelers, go crazy! How about BNSF 4729? This unique unit originally wore the Heritage 2 (orange and yellow) paint scheme until sometime in 2019. The entire long hood was removed when it was in the shop. The removal of the long hood is quite common as it exposes the entire prime mover. Sometimes, the long hood will be replaced with one from another unit. Perhaps the hood itself needed additional repairs. When the long hood from a unit with the same paint scheme is used, it likely is not noticed. A crew will show up to take the train in to Denver, but it could be anywhere from 4 to 24 hours before the crew actually appears.
