Four UP units, the leader being a recently repainted C44ACM, leads this UP oil train west along the south edge of Big Ten Loop. The train will go in the siding at Eisele (Clay) to meet an eastbound BNSF oil load that is on the main, waiting.

The BNSF train to the left and the UP train to the right are both currently facing south (geographically). However, the BNSF train at Eisele (Clay) is eastbound and the UP train at Rocky is westbound. The UP train will climb up and around Big Ten, taking the siding at Eisele to meet the oil load.

A westbound UP oil empty meets a BNSF manifest (tied down in the siding at Rocky) and heads toward an Approach Diverging (yellow over yellow) signal at west Rocky. In a few minutes, the train will enter into the siding at Eisele (Clay), the track second away from the camera in the foreground. While it is only about 2,500 feet (as the crow flies) between the signals here at Eisele and the ones at Rocky, it is about 1.5 miles by rail to cover the distance (around Big Ten).

Between late 2018 and early 2019, Kansas City Southern decided to dip a toe into the Tier-4 locomotive lineup, purchasing 25 GE ET44ACs. One example, KCS 5010, just happened to be the second unit on an eastbound BNSF oil train here at Eisele.

With MRL units now owned by BNSF and, consequently, in the general power pool, they are rolling through the Denver more often. This makes me happy as it is allowing me to get more pictures of them before they are inevitably repainted BNSF orange at some point. This shot makes the 12th MRL SD70ACe I've been able to shoot. It is the third unit on the head end of an eastbound oil train on the main at Eisele (Clay).

As we get closer to spring (and then summer), the days are starting to get longer. Here, not long before noon, this eastbound BNSF oil train is heading almost directly into the sun as it slows to a stop on the main track at Eisele (Clay). It is waiting on a westbound UP oil empty that will take the siding. There is a BNSF manifest tied down on the siding at Rocky, so the meet had to be here instead.

This BNSF oil load has quite a colorful consist as a KCS "Belle" and an MRL SD70ACe help out the BNSF ES44AC on the point. The train is rolling east on the main track at Plain.

BNSF's Provo-Denver manifest arrived in the siding at Rocky yesterday right around 3pm, meaning it has now been tied down here for about 17 hours as of the time of this shot. The train is waiting for a BNSF crew to come out of Denver and take it into the yard.

Just on the west side of Tunnel 1, the Winter Park Express is moving along at track speed, making up a little time after a brief delay getting out of town. It would be successful, arriving at Winter Park only four minutes late.

A pair of P42DCs lead the Winter Park Express out of Eisele (Clay). After running with only five coaches for a couple of trips, a sixth coach has been added back on. It was added at the same time AMTK 45 replaced AMTK 29 on the train. Note that you can just barely see the mainline west of Rocky, climbing Big Ten to the left.

Overnight, Amtrak removed AMTK 29 from the Winter Park Express and replaced it with AMTK 45. That unit leads the train as it knocks down a clear (green) signal at the east end of Leyden.

AMTK 29 has red class lights turn on on its nose, indicating it is bringing up the tail end of the Winter Park Express. The train is setup in a push-pull configuration. I am not quite sure why that was the case. The train is crossing the 80th Avenue grade crossing, just east of Leyden.
