An unfortunate accident in the Chicago area on BNSF resulted in a fatality. Amtrak was delayed due to the resulting NTSB investigation. The fastest way to do this was via Prospect Junction and Union Station. From Union Station, the crew can shove the cars down to 36th Street. BNSF trains headed to or from the Joint Line cross the diamond (on one of the two main tracks). The Buck Main crosses the north end of the Joint Line, connection Union Station with Prospect Junction (and beyond). BNSF also uses the Buck Main to wye power. At Utah Junction, the train will stop and meet Amtrak 5. Amtrak will take the North Yard siding from Utah Junction west to C&S Junction. The manifest is built in the yard and then shoved back toward Union Station so the power can be put on. Then, once it has permission from the yardmaster, the train pulls out of the yard toward the Limon Sub to head east to Salina, KS.
