Between C&S Junction and Fox Junction, BNSF trains run on UP's main. It is also the only real section of track that crews operating on BNSF's Golden Sub have to run in CTC limits. Meanwhile, a UP oil empty heads west on Main 1. when RTD constructed their G-Line along the UP right-of-way, UP received money to add a second main track between C&S Junction and Arvada. The outbound crew on this oil train had to do exactly that when they got to North Yard. They went on duty at 9:50am, and it is now 2:50pm. A new crew was called at 9:50am. Upon arriving at North Yard, the crew had to pull power off the train and replace it with new power. UP got rid of all of its hostlers a few years ago, so crews have to shuttle power around themselves. They will pull west on Main 1 to clear the signal at C&S, then get a light to cross over to Main 2 and the North Yard siding to head back east. In the distance, you can just see the tail end of the westbound Zephyr on Main 2. One additional note of interest...UP 6345 was original SP 296! After getting the unit added, waiting for the Zephyr, and performing an air test, the oil train will be ready to head west. In the distance, you can see the tail end of an eastbound oil load that arrived a few hours earlier. That power will be removed from the train before it departs east for the KP.
