This view has changed pretty significantly over the course of the last 15 years. The neighborhood to the left ("Five Parks") was built just shy of 15 years ago. Back when the Rocky Flats cleanup project was underway, it was not uncommon to find a string of covered hoppers tied down on the house track. Out of the frame to the right stands Ralston Valley High School. It was built in 2000 to facilitate the growth in Arvada.

I really like the shot looking down toward the west end of Leyden. In the distance, you can see the hoppers that are welded to the rails on the side of Big Ten Curve. Interestingly, I just shot UP 5895 (the trailing unit) three days earlier on the point of an eastbound coal load!
This train came from Kinder Morgan in Houston, TX and is headed for the loadout at Energy. Somebody is going to have a little hostling of power to do in Phippsburg. Energy Mine does not have a balloon track, so the power on the tail end when the train arrives becomes the lead power when the train departs!

Happy Birthday Amtrak! Phase I and Phase II Heritage P42DC's lead the Zephyr at Leyden. The Zephyr is running about 3 1/2 hours late this morning, about 90 minutes of that due to a Vice Presidential Motorcade. VP Biden was in town and his motorcade route traversed I-25 over the tracks. Consequently, the Secret Service wasn't allowing any trains under the bridge.
