Last week when the Zephyr headed west on a Friday with AMTK 184 on the point, I was bummed I didn't have time to shoot the train anywhere other than at Chemical. So, when I heard AMTK 184 was leading the train again on this day, I was excited that I had the time to make the climb up to Tunnel 1. This is the shot I had in mind and definitely the best place to shoot a westbound on the Moffat in the morning!

Amtrak's Phase IV scheme was not yet popular (and their Phase V had not even been thought of) when this picture was taken in 1997. Amtark 5 is about to disappear into tunnel one, In the foreground, the track curves torward Clay over my left shoulder.
