What do these three units have in common? Well, aside from the obvious that is! Of course they are all geeps and they are all on the active UP roster. But can you figure out something a little less obvious that they have in common? You can post your guess by clicking here and leaving a comment. I'll post the answer in a few days if nobody gets it correct!

Still in pretty decent shape, UP 1352 (ex-DRGW 3097) sits with class lights still installed near the yard office at 36th street. DRGW 3097 - the last Grande geep in the 30xx range - finished its Rio Grande life as the Colorado Springs switcher back in 2005.

A couple of the Rio Grande GP40-2s that received a yellow patch on either side of the cab have actually been completed repainted recently. Such is the case with UP 1364 (ex-DRGW 3109), sitting near the yard office at UP's 36th Street Yard.

The design of the EMD's spartan cab, first seen on the GP35's, is definitely my favorite of any cab. While there were some minor changes over the years, the spartan cab remained basically the same all the way through the standard cab SD70's, when wide cabs started appearing. Here, UP 8601 (ex-DRGW 5410) sits idling in 36th street.

Do you recognize this face? Baby wings throwing you off perhaps? Prior to August of 2001, you definitely would have known the face of DRGW 5410! This former Grande T-2 has received a full repaint, including the previously mentioned baby wings and the "lightning bolt" on the long hood. The unit was idling away in the 36th street yard.

UP 900082, the rotary plow that UP keeps and maintains in Cheyenne, departs 36th Street on the point of the WDEDEF-31. The plow will help dig through some snow drifts on the plains to help rescue some crews that are actually trapped on their trains, stuck in the snow. Although the plow itself is powered by diesel-electric, there is still a steam-powered heat system to make sure all the equipment remains defrosted!

It isn't very often that you can find a tunnel motor these days, regardless of the paint scheme. I was very happy to find UP 2935 (ex-UP 4522, nee-SP 8243) sitting near the yard office at 36th Street. This particular tunnel motor has worn yellow paint since it received a full repaint almost nine years ago in March 1998!

UP 1445 - formerly DRGW 3129 - moves slowly through the yard tracks of 36th street alongside UP 2002. I like that the two units that are the focus of this shot are both owned by UP, but neither has much yellow on them.

Two former Rio Grande GP40-2's (still sporting Grande Gold on most of the unit) sit idling at UP's 36th street yard. UP 1445 was DRGW 3129 unit about a year ago on November 1, 2005. UP 1352 has been "on the patch" for a bit longer, formerly DRGW 3097 until July 31, 2005.

Near the yard office in UP's 36th street yard, several different sets of units sit waiting for yard assignments. Among the units is UP 1352, formerly DRGW 3097!

Up until August 12, 2005, this was DRGW 3109. While it is unfortunately that it now wears a large yellow patch, at least it still has a complete light package! Here, the unit is idling quietly in UP's 36th Street Yard.
