Turns out it's not a 25% chance. In fact, the odds are next to zero that the MAC was in the lead. BNSF has a policy that if there are AC and DC units mixed on a train, a DC unit must be on the point. If the AC unit was on the point, the engineer could actually burn out the traction motors on the DC units without realizing it from the AC unit on the point. An SD75I - with a very nice Warbonnet scheme - leads up the train. The conductor on the ground is preparing to cut the units away from the auto racks. KCS 4008 came off the Moffat the day before on BNSF's Stockton to Denver trackage rights train. That third unit out is actually a DIC SW1500 in BNSF's New Image paint scheme.
