UP 1996 is among three (standard) mid-train swing units on an eastbound coal train that is coming out of Tunnel 1. Seeing as how the swing helpers will be cut out in Denver, there is a chance that UP 1996 may make another trip west.

An eastbound coal load goes a little out of the norm in terms of power as it has five units on the point instead of the usual two. In addition, UP 1996 is the third of the three mid-train swing helpers. the train is slowing in the siding at Rocky, waiting to meet two westbounds.

Seven units lead a westbound coal empty headed for the Energy Mine on the Craig Branch. "A coal empty?", you might be asking. "That does not look like a coal hopper behind the power!" - and you would be correct. With the implementation of PSR (Precision Scheduled Railroading), UP is reducing the number of trains by combining some trains. In this case, manifest traffic that would be on the MNYPH is instead added to the point of coal empties.

Clouds move in and out of the scene at the intermediate signal west of Leyden. Fortunately, sun is shining on the five units leading this eastbound coal load.

A break in the clouds showed up just as the mid-train swing helpers, including UP 1996, rolled by the intermediate signal just west of Leyden.
